This feels ...well, you read it. This is Top Secret material, by the way. :) hehehe
Oh, dear God. I'm going to be improvising, I'm telling you that RIGHT NOW. There would BE no chain if there weren't other Very Brave people out there who have so much love for someone that they were willing to donate to someone they didn't know. How embarassing! I think I need a drink right now.
Hello!
Thank you again for volunteering your time to tell the Kidney Chain Story to our Great Chefs of Minnesota Audience!
Here's a rundown of what to expect.
Registration begins at 5:00

If you are staying at the hotel, you can check in with the hotel before you come to the ballroom. Here are the confirmation numbers:
*Shannon Peterson 730468
*Sheila Dolan 730469
Sheila, I know I got your last name wrong. Bring this number when you check in to make sure there aren't any problems.
*Robert Howden 730470
At 6:00 PM we will start the live program. First, we'll present our "Friend of the Foundation" awards. Then we'll play our "Heads and Tails" game. Heads and tails is a lot of fun! It's $10 to play and the winner gets a 46" Sony HDTV. So make sure you come prepared to play!
At 7:00 We'll start the live auction and the gift of life pledge. There are 13 auction items before the pledge.
When we are at the Bob Seger package. I'd like all the Recipients to go to the registration table and find an 'NKF staff person. We are going to position the recipients around the room.
Nicki. You will be the first person to speak. I will email you the script. You are going to briefly tell your story, and then say you decided to give to save "one" person's life - but didn't know that you'd actually be saving 5 lives.
As soon as she says that, Shannon - we'll give you a microphone, and from a position in the crowd, you'll stand up and say you are Nicki's recipient, and take 30 seconds to share your story. You'll end it with "Nicki - you saved my life." From there, you'll need to get on stage and join Nicki.
Then, from another part of the room, Mark, you'll stand up - tell your story in 30 seconds, and end it with "Nicki - you saved my life" - then you'll go on stage with Nicki and Shannon.
Priscilla - then you're up. You'll be in yet another part of the room. Will stand up, tell your story in 30 seconds and end it with "Nicki, you saved my life" and go join Nicki, Shannon and Mark on stage.
Robert - then it's your turn. Same thing. We'll have you positioned in the crowd. You'll stand. Tell your story in 30 seconds, and end it with "Nicki, you saved my life" You'll then go and join Nicki, Shannon, Mark and Priscilla on stage.
Finally, we'll get Matthew to stand up - tell his story and end it with the same line. Matt, then you'll go on stage.
When all of you are on stage the emcee will say "Ladies and Gentleman - meet the recipients of the 2010 July Kidney Chain, the biggest in the midwest to date.
(Huge Applause)
Nicki - it's back to you. You'll get back on the microphone and say how happy you all are to be here, etc.,. but that a huge part of the chain is missing. The other donors. (Nicki will adlib here and say "this chain could never have happened without the other willing donors, who had so much love in their hearts that they were willing to donate to someone they didn't know, if only their loved one were to receive a kidney) You'll then read off Sheila's, Ann's, John's and Heather's names and where they are from.
Sheila, Ann, John, Heather - as your name is read - please go on stage and join your recipient.
(More huge applause!)
Nicki, you'll end by saying something like "we are the lucky ones - we were able to give and get kidneys - but there are still thousands waiting, and the 'NKF is working tirelessly to end that wait through their programs, etc.,...I know not everyone in this room can give a kidney, but what you can do is give a pledge to help support those efforts."
From there - the emcee will go on to explain the Gift of Life Pledge.
After the pledge, there are a few more items - we are done about 8:00 PM.
I know it sounds confusing - please call me if you have any questions!
Finally, if you haven't done it yet - please email me your photo - and where you are from!
Thanks,

Dear God I cried just READING it! Let me know if you want help writing out your ad lib parts. Also, lots of people drink half a glass of wine or something before they speak. Eases the nerves! For you, maybe 2 sips should do just fine. =)
ReplyDeleteOh my! That would be so difficult to have so much attention on me.
ReplyDeleteYES. I feel the 3 P's coming on already, just thinking about it. (puke, poop, pass out)
