EPL

Okay, I never caved and read Eat, Pray, Love because it was Too Hyped Up. Generally speaking, when something is that hyped up, it will never "make it" with my expectations being as high as they get then. Ya know?
So I avoided it. Mistake? Maybe.
It was on TV. We NEVER have movie channels and we're STUCK with them for 3 months (and stuck with porn too. What a waste!) until I ditch them along with the ridiculous package we have as the promo.
I have a 5 minute rule. If it doesn't grab me in 5 minutes, it's over. I watched it for about 45 minutes before I got really bored with it. Bored with her chronic agonizing over her divorce or whatever. That might sound mean- divorces chew people up and spit them out, but it doesn't come across well in a movie. In this instance, the book was probably better?
Anyway, the part that I did like is how truly simple she made it seems to drop everything and GO, and I really REALLY believe that that is what we should all do. Seriously. I will never understand what it is that makes us all want to pair up and hide away for the rest of our lives. We get married, and then before you know it you want babies, and then you have to work to pay for those babies and any other toys you are enjoying. And there you have it. Then people have "mid life crisises" which is really (in my own know nothing opinion, of course. ;) ) just your soul SCREAMING AT YOU to DO SOMETHING FUN again. TO BUST OUT. We did not come here to slowly suffocate trying to MAKE MONEY! For the love of GOD money is not THE WORLD! Can't you feel it inside of you? The urge to go touch something wild, to go taste something foreign, to do that thing you've been dreaming of your whole life? Maybe you want to take a hip hop class when you are the whitest white boy the land's ever seen. Just freakin DO IT ALREADY. I know I probably sound redundant but I am so tired of people worrying so much about so much that they are FROZEN. Please....I can tell you right now that you'd never regret taking a chance. There is just no sense or reason to wait.
So anyway- it was just okay. There were moments that were nice and moments that I'm sure the book did better justice by ...and I didn't watch it all and when it was on again the next day I didn't watch it then either.
Lyla is out on the tire swing, and it's all twisted up so it's spinning her. She's laying in the middle with her arms and legs spread wide, like she's flying and I can remember exactly how that felt to me, as a kid. I loved that. I love it for her right now.
I watched a thing on Peter Gabriel. I really, really like who he is. I was going to launch into what he said about a group that he's a part of, but it was political and Id' butcher it. In the end, he said something to the effect of he doesn't see the point of democratic or republican parties because all that does is highlight the differences between people and we need to look at the similarities and go from there. Most people don't fall 100% into either party anyway, and it just gives people another thing to bitch about and bicker over. Unproductive, totally. Only he said it much, much better, and the group that he's a part of sounds kick ASS. I should research that. I'll put it on my list of Shit To Learn About. ;)
The sun is out. I haven't learned to calm the wind though. Still working on it. :) Give a girl some time, sheesh.

  1. With Eat Pray Love it is one of those instances where the book is INFINITELY better than the movie. The movie bored me to tears.

I don't think you'd like the book though. I think you'd just be annoyed with her.

  2. I also have Directv. I don't get porn or movie channels, but there are some channels, such as MTV, that I block. You can do that in your menu. You set up a 4 number pass code so no one can remove it, check off the ones you don't want and they won't be accessible from that t.v. I don't want my 13 year old daughter watching MTV, so she can't.

  3. Did you watch MTV when we were growing up? It is a completely different show than it was back then.
I'd have a BAZILLION channels to block right now, this is all part of their promo package for 3 months. We have every station under the sun. We don't watch much TV during the day. In fact, the kids don't really watch TV, cept for during nap time, and that's Nick Jr or TPT. The only thing they watch at night is the Twins when they are on...but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to block some of the EXTRA CRAZY madness that is available. UGH. :) Thank you!!!!!
