Okay- I want to make a list- and the kids and Cullen will help make it too, especially since they will be participating in what the list lists!
I want to make a list of "easy" ways we can help with different "problems/issues" in our little world.
Like we're feeding the homeless November 12th, and the kids get to be there (well, the ones that don't require constant supervision do anyway. I think Jordan and maybe Julia will have to sit this one out).
There are a TRILLION opportunities, all the time. I mean, take your PICK! We can donate blankets to the homeless shelter, make WELCOME HOME baskets for the newly un homeless, we can volunteer to walk the pets in a shelter, we can rake an elderly person's yard for them (or a lazy person's yard, I guess- haha). We can collect canned goods in our neighborhood for a food shelf, we can collect dollars from neighbors to give to whatever cause we want. We can focus on issues right here, or focus on huge issues elsewhere. We can do one of the things where we help pack boxes for Haiti ...I mean- a TRILLION ways! We can donate books to the local (itty bitty) library to help them grow. We can visit a retirement home.
But I want a HUGE list, and maybe every week I'll let one kid pick which one we do that week? Won't that be the funnest ever???
So, whatcha got?
It's amazing how much better the world is when you aren't being so focused on yourself. YAY!
We can't fix the world but we can love people. So it starts within and you seem to be great at that. Not feeling bad feelings toward other even when we are right. Because if we are nice to some, but mean to others, the niceness really doesn't matter. I think that your feelings on Jesus are pretty different from mine, but I will still speak the truth and you will agree or not. Be Jesus to everyone you encounter. Love everyone. Help anyone that asks, even when it's a bum that we think will spend money on drugs/alcohol. No, we don't have to buy them dinner. We can give them money and let whatever happens happen. Let all people know that they are worthy of love. Hug someone that you might be afraid will give you lice. Open the door for a punk/thug/goth. Don't automatically lock your car doors when you see someone that makes you think to lock your doors. Give a homeless person the shoes off of your feet, and don't plan on wearing old shoes that you don't mind getting rid of. Give them your good shoes and walk away shoeless.
ReplyDelete1. gather a clean-up crew and go clean up the trash at a park
ReplyDelete2. write letters or cards to people in the armed forces serving overseas
3. go sing Christmas carols at a retirement home (when Christmas rolls around.)
4. babysit someone's kids for free for a night to give the parents a night off
5. write thank you notes to people that you wouldn't normally thank (the garbage man, etc.)
6. do a walk/run where you have to get pledges to raise money for a cause
7. grow out your hair and donate it to Locks for Love
8. bake dinner for a family that is going through a medical illness... like if the mom is going through chemotherapy or something
9. post eight million comments on your friend's blog to really make their day!!!
10. give up your seat on a crowded el train (this one might not be as feasible for you up in MN)
Yeah!!!
